God was working on me in the blind again…

God was working on me in the blind again…

Earlier tonight I was in the blind watching a doe. She’d been out there for about an hour.

A train went by. My neighbor had big farm equipment go through.

She didn’t even flinch.

She’d heard it all before. What might have once sent her running barely got her attention.

And a thought stayed with me…

Something can stop bothering us without ever becoming okay.

There are things in life we need to learn to let go of. But we also have to be careful what we’re learning to live with.

We can get used to things spiritually, too.

Something that once brought conviction barely gets our attention anymore. We’ve lived around it long enough, explained it away enough, made room for it enough, that it’s become familiar… And familiar starts feeling acceptable.

Our eyes do something similar in the dark. At first, we can barely see. But give it enough time and we start making things out. We learn to move around. We get comfortable.

The darkness hasn’t changed. Our eyes have adjusted.

Could that be happening to us spiritually?

Could we become so accustomed to the darkness that we stop recognizing how desperately we need the Light?

We need Jesus. All of us. Every day.

We need His truth to shape what we accept. His love to keep our hearts tender. His Spirit to help us recognize when we’ve grown comfortable with something that’s drawing us away from Him.

Being able to navigate the darkness doesn’t mean we’re walking in the light.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12

There’s hope in that invitation.

We don’t have to keep adjusting our lives to the darkness. Jesus invites us to follow Him into the light. And through His Word and His Spirit, He helps us see clearly again.

That’s a reminder every one of us needs… Including the guy sitting in the blind.

So maybe this is a prayer we can pray together…

Lord, keep our hearts tender and our eyes open. Help us recognize what we’ve grown used to. Give us the humility to receive Your truth and the courage to follow where You lead.

May we never become so comfortable in the darkness that we forget we were called to be the light.

The pics are my visitors today… Enjoy.
Iris wasn’t in the blind with Grampy, but look how many photo bombed that pic!!
